Each March, Monmouth Arts presents the Teen Arts Festival in collaboration with Brookdale Community College. Held on the Brookdale campus, this unique event is a great opportunity for teens ages 13 to 19 to experience all disciplines of the arts and participate in workshops, performances, exhibits, and critiques. Registration (and applications for evaluations) for schools and independent students opens in the fall and closes in January.
Nearly 2,000 teens attend each year, representing different middle and high schools in Monmouth County as well as home-schooled students. During the two-day event, over 30 artists/teachers present workshops and master classes in their individual specialties, including drama, filmmaking, voice, acting, and instrumental music.
Although it’s not a competition, professional artists at the festival provide in-depth critical reviews of student work, performances, and group presentations – a process that students report to be most beneficial to their growth as artists. Students and performance groups designated as “superior” at the county level are invited to perform at the State Teen Arts Festival.
We gratefully acknowledge the continued support of Brookdale Community College administration and the use of the campus facilities and personnel, which make this event a success.
