Painting with Acrylics & Mediums!

The following workshops are all with Amy Faris. Each workshop is one Saturday a month starting

Jan. 28.   2-5pm   Take one for $50 Per workshop or $225 for all 5

Please register at least 1 week prior to workshop!

January 28—Glazing with Acrylics

3 hour, hands-on workshop in which students will be taken through the traditional painting technique of building acrylic color as transparent layers, in order to create brilliant, jewel like effects.  Students will complete one small piece in which glazes are applied over a monochromatic under painting. 2-5pm

February 25—Creating Photo Transfers with Acrylics

3 hour, hands-on workshop in which students will be taken through several methods for transferring printed images of their photographs into a layer of acrylic medium and paint or onto fabric or a primed support.  Students will be able to start several transfers during the workshop that will be completed at home.  Techniques for mounting the transfers and applications in which the transfers can be used will be introduced.  2-5pm

March 31—Drawing Techniques with Acrylics

3 hour, hands-on workshop in which students will explore the possibilities of using acrylics within the drawing process.  Combining acrylic grounds with traditional drawing materials and creating excavated or extruded lines will be introduced.  Students will be given premade acrylic grounds to work on top of and will make a copy from a selection of master paintings and drawings.  Students will prepare two different grounds during the workshop, which will be taken home for future use.  2-5pm

April 28— Staining and Pouring with Acrylics

3 hour, hands-on workshop in which students will work with acrylics in a wet into wet techniques. creating stained grounds on absorbent surfaces.  Techniques for creating acrylic pours will be explored and combined with the staining procedure.  Use of acrylics as a “water color” and ink, to be dripped, spattered and otherwise pushed around will be demonstrated.  Students will create several pours and a stained ground during this workshop. 

May 19— Collage with Acrylics

3 hour hands-on workshop in which students will learn how to adhere various materials to a support.  Use of acrylic paints and mediums as glues or as elements within a collage will be demonstrated and explored.  History of collage, the basic elements of design, and possible narrative content will be discussed.  Student will complete one small collage during the workshop.2-5pm
